Thriving downtowns are Vermont’s economic engine and the vibrancy of our downtowns translates into a healthy and prosperous state.
The work of the downtown organizations support the many economies that make up our state: the creative economy, outdoor recreation, food & beverage and retail entrepreneurs. Yet, we know Vermont’s downtowns are under threat.
Challenging the New Normal
Changing demographics, the housing crisis, workforce scarcity, climate change, the global pandemic, and other economic pressures present significant challenges to our downtowns. To that end, the Vermont Downtown Coalition’s 2023 state policy agenda builds on past efforts and adds to the continued investment into the heart of Vermont’s communities.
Why Form a Coalition?
The Vermont Downtown Coalition is an ambitious and necessary undertaking to support our collective goal of communication, data collection, and advocacy to protect our historic districts. Together, these distinct arms of the VDC can reverse what we are seeing in terms of shuttered businesses, vacancies and decreased revenue. Your contributions would support the VDC and each of the 24 downtown organizations.
